Lancashire Constabulary are warning all residents to be 'vigilant' after burglars used a 'check the meter' ruse to get into a house.
Once inside, they then distracted the occupant before stealing items and making off. Police are urging residents to take certain actions when officials or other work personnel turn up at your property unannounced and to share the alert with elderly relatives and neighbours.
"Please always check and confirm the identity of the individual before letting them into your home. If you are are unsure of their legitimacy in any way, you have the right to turn them away.
