Arriva's popular 79 service has altered as repairs are carried out
Flooding closed the road where Wood Lane meets Gerrard's Lane in Netherley on Sunday, November 5, leading to Arriva altering the 79 bus usual route. Arriva said while the burst has been repaired and the flooding has ended, there is now a large hole in the road which requires fixing.
While roadworks continue, the 79 service, which runs from Liverpool ONE to Halewood, will deviate from it's normal journey, omitting a section of Childwall Valley Road, Caldway Drive, Wood Lane and Gerrard's Lane. The bus will now go through Belle Vale Road, Halewood Road, Lydiate Lane and Okell Drive before resuming as usual to Halewood Shopping Centre.
Katherine Jewell, who lives on the Woodlands estate, an area affected by the changes, told the ECHO: "My whole family uses the 79 for almost all of our travel. My husband, who lectures at Liverpool Hope University, had to walk 3/4 mile to the top of Wood Lane in the rain to get to work yesterday, and back to get home.
A spokesperson for Arriva said: "I can confirm that service 79 are on diversion as the road where Wood Lane meets Gerrard's Lane is currently closed, this was due to a burst water main on Sunday and following this for the road to be resurfaced.
