Former Hawthorn welfare manager Jason Burt has hit back at a claim made by some of the families at the centre of the club’s racism allegations that they had not sought financial compensation.

, in which they stressed that they were not seeking a financial settlement.

“It is simply not true that the complainants have not been seeking financial compensation,” Hargreaves said on his client’s behalf.“The AFL shut down the investigation because the complainants asked them to. The AFL had thousands of documents from Hawthorn and detailed information from me, Alastair and Chris which showed that their allegations were wrong.

“We told our truths in confidence, because we believed that it would bring change. And because we needed to heal and move on. That confidence was betrayed.”
