The musician spoke to the ECHO in an exclusive interview as Busted prepare to embark on a series of summer shows
The musician shot to stardom over 20 years ago as part of the pop punk group, Busted. Growing up in the limelight did not come without its problems as the band's differences led to a split in 2005 - and Matt has also bravely opened up about his addiction struggles in a BBC documentary last year.
The 41-year-old said: "20 years is a long time to be in the music industry these days and that isn't lost on me. I'm amazed that I'm still doing this job. "There's something about being able to relive that and get transported back to that. That was what the 20th anniversary tour was about." "I just want to have a great time and do cool s**t. And the other two do too. We want to do things that excite us and means something to us. I've always said there are four members of Busted. There's me, James, Charlie and Busted. We've got to look after that guy because he's the gift that keeps on giving."
The two were in Liverpool this week to host the Cunard's Queen Anne naming ceremony and Matt said he always loves visiting the city. He said: "The people are just cool there. People are just rad and up for a great time, which I love." "We were in a battle for number one with Olivia Rodrigo and were neck and neck so it was a real nerve-wracking week. The morning of we really didn't know what it was going to be because she had so many more streaming numbers than us."
