'The whole road is covered and fresh water is still running down'

Water pouring out onto streets of a Nottinghamshire town following a water leak and has turned them into an "ice rink" and a "potential danger", a local councillor has said.

It comes as temperatures have plummeted across the county, with more severe weather forecast over the next 24 hours.. Industry experts say freezing temperatures can put pressure on pipe joints, causing them to leak or burst.Councillor MacRae said: "It looks like it has been snowing. The whole road is covered and fresh water is still running down to the bottom of the Crescent.

"Severn Trent have been notified and they said it will be fixed by December 26. As the local Ward Councillor I am not happy with this response. With the weather set to drop again later this area will be like an ice rink." A Severn Trent spokesperson said: “We’re really sorry to anyone affected by the burst water pipe affecting Pasture Road and The Crescent in Stapleford, caused by the freezing temperatures we’re experiencing – freezing temperatures can put pressure on pipe joints, causing them to leak or burst.
