West Lancashire by-election looms as Rosie Cooper resigns as MP
Rosie Cooper has formally quit as West Lancashire MP - more than two months after first announcing her departure.
She announced her planned departure in September when she revealed she had accepted the position of chair of Mersey Care NHS Foundation Trust “after a considerable period of soul-searching and reflection”. This appointment meant she was unable to continue with her duties as the MP for West Lancashire, she said.
Ms Cooper, who held the seat for 17 years, was at the centre of a murder plot in 2017 that saw convicted neo-Nazi Jack Renshaw, of Skelmersdale, jailed for life for planning to kill her.
