The 52-year-old Halifax man pointed a loaded rifle, with the safety off, at a sergeant with Pennsylvania State Police in Lykens before a bystander took the gun from his hands, police said.
The Dauphin County man who shut down a neighborhood in Halifax for at least nine hours Thursday had a rifle wrestled out of his hands by a bystander after he pointed it in the direction of a state police sergeant, according to court documents.was arrested and charged with attempted criminal homicide, simple assault, prohibited possession of a firearm, criminal trespassing, aggravated assault and three counts of recklessly endangering another person.
After receiving reports from neighbors that Vann was trying to force his way into the home just before 10 a.m., investigators believed Vann entered the home by removing an air conditioning unit from a window. Around 6:10 p.m. police received reports of a man with a rifle matching Vann’s description walking by the railroad tracks near Ebenezer Road and North River Road, where officers formed a perimeter.
