Cain International, co-founded by Todd Boehly and Jonathan Goldstein, acquires a 49% stake in the Trent Rockets cricket franchise for nearly £40 million, valuing the entire franchise at £79 million. Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club retains the remaining 51% ownership.
Cain International , a real estate investment firm co-founded by American Todd Boehly and British businessman Jonathan Goldstein , will acquire a 49% stake in the Trent Rockets cricket franchise for nearly £40 million. This valuation places the entire franchise at £79 million. Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club , the Rockets' home ground at Trent Bridge, will retain control of the remaining 51%.
The deal marks another significant sale in the Hundred, with total stakes in the seven teams sold to date exceeding £500 million. Southern Brave, the final franchise, is expected to be sold later this week, likely to the co-owners of the Indian Premier League (IPL) team Delhi Capitals, following their acquisition of hosts Hampshire.Boehly, a prominent figure in the world of sports investments, led the consortium that purchased Premier League club Chelsea for £4.25 billion in May 2022 and currently serves as chairman. Goldstein also holds a seat on Chelsea's board. Boehly's involvement extends to a minority ownership stake in the Los Angeles Dodgers baseball team and numerous other sports-related businesses through his conglomerate, Eldridge Industries. This acquisition adds to a growing list of sports investments by Boehly and Cain International. Nottinghamshire becomes the fifth county to sell a 49% share in their Hundred franchise. Other notable sales include Surrey's £60 million deal with the owners of IPL side Mumbai Indians for a 49% stake in Oval Invincibles, Warwickshire's £40 million agreement with Knighthead Capital, the owners of Birmingham City FC, for a 49% share of Birmingham Phoenix, and Glamorgan's £40 million sale of the same stake in Welsh Fire to IT entrepreneur Sanjay Govil. Additionally, the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) partnered with a consortium led by Nikesh Arora, acquiring a 49% share of London Spirit. Lancashire was the first county to sell part of their share, agreeing to a deal for 70% of Manchester Originals with the owners of IPL team Lucknow Super Giants for around £81 million. Yorkshire, the first county to sell its entire stake, saw the Sun Group, owners of Sunrisers Hyderabad, acquire Northern Superchargers for just over £100 million. The funds generated from these sales will primarily benefit the 18 first-class counties, the MCC, and the recreational game of cricket
