At the California State Assembly, Rep. Jesse Gabriel targets food dyes and additives linked to behavioral difficulties and decreased attention in children.
Flamin’ Hot Cheetos may be one of San Antonio ’s most deliciously spicy staples, but they’re definitely not good for you. That's been top of mind for California state lawmakers lately. Last week, they approved a bill to ban “certain chemical food dyes found to be toxic to humans” from being served in public schools, per the Sacramento Bee . That means no Flamin' Hot Cheetos and no Fruit Loops .
“California has a responsibility to protect our students from chemicals that harm children and that can interfere with their ability to learn,” Gabriel said in a March 12 news release. Specifically, the bill would ban Red Dye No. 40, Yellow Dye No. 5, Yellow Dye No. 6, Blue Dye No. 1, Blue Dye No. 2 and Green Dye No. 3, plus the food additive titanium dioxide.
