A convicted serial killer has been connected to the unsolved murder of a woman in California dating back nearly 40 years, according to authorities.

identified the murder as William "Bill" Suff , who was infamously known as “The Riverside Prostitute Killer" or "The Lake Elsinore Killer."

Homicide Detective Lt. Patricia Thomas said Cathy Small was found dead in the middle of a street in South Pasadena on Feb. 22, 1986. At the time, Thomas said authorities were unable to identify her. The sheriff's office said Small left behind two young children at the time of her murder. She was also a daughter and a sister.
