Sinn Féin MLA Daniel Baker has called for a new building for St Colm's High School in Belfast, stating that the current building is in a state of disrepair. Education Minister Paul Givan has been invited for a site visit to witness the need for a new school building.

Sinn Féin MLA Daniel Baker said St Colm's High School "is literally falling down around the staff and pupils", and invited the Education Minister for a site visit this week. Paul Givan spoke with the school's leadership, he says, on a range of issues including the school's building.

"The current school is nearly 50 years old and is literally falling down around the staff and pupils, for example the main sports hall is currently closed and out of use because a wall was about to collapse. "This is a school that built resilience in me as a young school boy, a school I’m proud to say I attended. I will do all that I can to help deliver a new post primary school for the Colin."

When asked about the comments made regarding the school's building, a Department of Education spokesperson told Belfast Live: "The Minister agrees that children across Northern Ireland should be educated in schools which are comfortable and safe, are of good quality and are properly designed and resourced to support their learning."
