Chris Harper, known for his role as Geoffrey Franklin in the beloved BBC series Call the Midwife, is making a comeback after an eight-year absence. Harper delighted fans with his appearance in the 2024 Christmas special and has now confirmed his return in the current series. The 47-year-old actor, who is also recognized for his portrayal of the villainous Nathan Curtis in Coronation Street, expressed his excitement about reprising his role as the amiable and helpful Geoffrey, highlighting the stark contrast between this character and his previous antagonist persona. Harper also shared his experience of being perceived as 'nice' due to his popular character, benefiting from the positive association.
A familiar face from Call the Midwife is set to grace our screens once more, as actor Chris Harper confirmed his return to the beloved BBC series after an eight-year hiatus. Harper, known for his role as Trixie's brother Geoffrey Franklin, delighted fans with his appearance in the 2024 Christmas special and has now disclosed that he will be back in the current series.
The 47-year-old actor, known for his portrayal of the villainous Nathan Curtis in Coronation Street, expressed his enthusiasm for his character Geoffrey, who stands in stark contrast to his Corrie alter ego. Speaking to The Sun, Harper said: 'I'm hoping very soon Geoffrey from Call the Midwife will be making his return to Poplar. 'The series that's on telly at the moment, I will be appearing again at the back end of. Which I absolutely love doing. They talk about a family atmosphere. That's the cast and crew of Call the Midwife. It's just a joy to be part of. And I love playing that character because he's such a fixer. He's a lovely guy, but he also comes in and helps people. So he's the absolute polar opposite of Nathan.' He added: 'He's a completely different character. And when I get spotted in the street, I definitely inherited niceness. There are people who know that Geoffrey from Call the Midwife is lovely, so I think they just assume I am. And so I benefit from that. Nobody's ever met me on the street and assumed I'm like Nathan.' Fans of the beloved series Call the Midwife were set for another heartwarming episode on BBC One on Sunday evening, February 9, as they returned to 1960s Poplar. However, there will be a brief hiatus following this episode, as the BAFTA Film Awards take precedence on Sunday, February 16, pushing the next instalment (episode 7) to the following Sunday, February 23, at 8pm, reports the Manchester Evening News. In the upcoming episode, viewers will see Joyce grappling with a tough situation when a new mother faces postnatal complications, while a council strike leads to an outbreak of Weil's disease, and Cyril's life veers in an unexpected direction. At the recent Radio Times Covers Party 2025, Helen George, who portrays Trixie Franklin, was quizzed about the potential return of her on-screen husband Matthew to Poplar. She said: 'Who knows! It'll be interesting to see what happens there. At the moment, I don't know, and I'm excited to find out what happens.' Fans can also look forward to Geoffrey's presence bringing cheer to Trixie once more
