Former Queensland Corrective Services Director-General Keith Hamburger says certain young offenders don’t need bail if they are “problematic, difficult, dangerous people”.
His comments come after Queensland Opposition Leader David Crisafulli proposed a plan to change bail and detention laws to combat the state’s growing youth crime crisis. “We don’t need bail for problematic, difficult, dangerous people,” Mr Hamburger told Sky News Australia. “They need to be fully assessed in an assessment centre, kept off the street before they go to court so bail is really not an option under the model we’re proposing.”
