The Hoops defender was left out the squad for the quarter-final Scottish Cup tie with David Martindale's Lions.
Brendan Rodgers has revealed Cameron Carter-Vickers' Celtic absence for the Scottish Cup clash with Livingston is down to injury.
USA defender Carter-Vickers has struggled with fitness this campaign with a number of spells out on the sidelines and when the centre-back has been unavailable for selection, the Scottish champions have struggled without his presence in the heart of their backline. He won't feature at all this afternoon - despite being in attendance in Glasgow's east end.
"There was no need and we don't want to take the risk with him. He's had a very interrupted season. We are hopeful it is nothing major and we've got Welshy who comes in and played in some big games for us this season and did well.
