Charles and Diana's wedding was the most celebrated event of the 20th century, with thousands of people turning out to cheer on the couple on their big day.
While the wedding preparations were in full swing, Charles, who is now King, continued his Royal duties as usual, embarking on a tour of Australia and New Zealand just weeks after presenting Diana with a stunning sapphire ring. Instead of ignoring the call to concentrate on their goodbyes, Charles reportedly answered it. Heartbroken by this early rejection, which unfortunately wouldn't be the last, Diana left the room in distress.
Angela Rippon, a former BBC News anchor, reflected on the couple's final interview before their nuptials as she re-watched it for the Channel 5 documentary 'Charles and Di: The Truth Behind their Wedding.' As Charles glanced at Diana, who then cast her eyes downward, Angela added: "That expression on Diana's face at the end speaks volumes. Maybe we should have read so much more into that five seconds at the end the interview. It might have told us so much more about what was to come."
