The Queen Consort has made a cheeky dig at controversial “sensitivity” changes to Roald Dahl’s popular books while hosting some of Britain’s most esteemed authors.

The 75-year-old’s remarks follow controversial language changes to many of Roald Dahl’s popular children’s books after the publisher brought in “sensitivity readers”.

The assembled authors allegedly laughed and responded “hear, hear” and the Queen Consort added, “Enough said.” Last week, Dahl’s publisher Puffin announced that several of the legendary author’s books would be amended to remove outdated and offensive language. In the 1983 novel The Witches, Dahl describes that witches are bald beneath their wigs. Forty years later, a new line has been added to the book which reads, “There are plenty of other reasons why women might wear wigs and there is certainly nothing wrong with that."References to character Augustus Gloop as “fat” have been removed, while Oompa Loompas are no longer referred to as “little men” in favour of “little people”.

The changes include swapping Cloud Men to Cloud People in ‘James and the Giant Peach’, a line describing tractors as black in ‘Fantastic Mr. Fox’ has been deleted, and the removal of the word fat as an adjective for characters in ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’. He says the changes are an attempt to “re-write history” in a way that does the publication a disservice. “It’s insidious the way that these ‘wokies’ are gradually airbrushing the world and re-drawing it in their own image, with their own world view.”
