Fans' favourite is out of contract in the summer but is fully focused on delivering the holy grail before deciding on his future. A five-year journey to the very edge of Tynecastle immortality concludes with the Aussie just one game - and one point - away from becoming aHis family have travelled from the other side of the planet in the hope of witnessing potentially the greatest moment in the club’s 152-year history.
For a few hours tomorrow everything Devlin has dreamed of and worked so hard to achieve will be laid out in front of the diminutive midfielder at Parkhead in front of 60,000 fans - all but 572 of whom will be hoping to see it end in tears for the little Socceroo. It’s D-Day. And for Devlin that sounds delightful. The 27-year-old has yet to sort out his future with his contract up in the next few weeks.
And when it was suggested he could be about to bring the maroon curtain down as a league champion, he said: “Just even saying that is so special.
“It's super special. I feel so privileged to have been here as long as I have and to be in this position.
“It would be amazing. It's going to be tough. There's no two ways about it.
“They're a good side. We've had a great season. They're right up there with us. So they're a great team.
“And it will be hard, but it would just be so special. I couldn't care where we do it. I just want to do it so badly. Among those people are Devlin’s nearest and dearest.
Some of whom have travelled from Down Under this week in the hope of witnessing something truly special. They got the first part of their wish at Tynecastle on Wednesday night when the midfielder netted the second goal in a 3-0 win over Falkirk that sees them head for the chequered flag a nose ahead of the Hoops.
“I got quite emotional, to be honest. “I looked up and my girlfriend and all her family and my little brother and his girlfriend flew from Australia, and my best mate from back home. And I looked up and, yeah, it was just so special. ”My family are here at the weekend.
They were coming anyway, so it's just worked out that we're in this position.
“I don't know if they’ll get in. I hope so. But it'll be an atmosphere they probably haven't ever seen before.
“Hopefully I can make it extra special for them. I’m a long way from home, so just to see my family is amazing. ”Things could have been even better for Hearts ahead of kick off had Celtic not been awarded a controversial last gasp penalty at Motherwell on Wednesday night - or had Hearts themselves been given a spot kick at the same venue when Alexandros Kyziridis was tripped in the box in the 1-1 draw four days earlier.
And he insists they will use every decision that’s gone against them as motivation to get over the finish line in today’s all-or-nothing title shootout. He said: “Absolutely. That was something we spoke about, obviously with Kizzee when he should have got the pen and maybe the handball in the first half against Motherwell.
“We're so desperate to do it. We’ve got to use every little bit we can as motivation if things are going against you.
“Then if we take care of what we have done all year then hopefully we can be on the other side of it on Saturday. “If we ponder too much on what could have been…there's games that we maybe should have won that we lost because of our fault that you can look back on. “You've just got to relish it.
When you're a kid growing up, you've watched these games on the telly, and to be a part of it is just so good, man. It's so much fun. It's what it's all about.
