A campaign to erect a permanent tribute to AC/DC brothers Malcolm and Angus Young in their hometown of Glasgow has been revived. The push comes as fans eagerly anticipate the band's possibly final Scottish show this summer. Glasgow City councillor Thomas Kerr aims to garner support for a motion to honor the rock band's co-founders with a lasting monument in Cranhill, where they grew up.
A campaign to erect a permanent tribute to famous Glaswegian AC/DC brothers Malcom and Angus Young have been reignited.
Calls for a monument have been backed by relatives of the Young brothers, with cousin Bryce Redburn saying a statue in Cranhill, where they grew up, would be “really special”. Cllr Kerr, former leader of the Conservative Group on Glasgow City Council, previously planned to put forward a motion for a lasting tribute to the iconic rock band’s co-founders Angus and Malcolm Young in their home city, and hoped to gain cross-party backing, the Daily Record reports.
The Young brothers moved to Australia in 1963, where they formed the iconic band in 1973. Malcolm died in 2017 but 69-year-old Angus still plays with the band. Cllr Kerr said now was the time to honour the famous rockers. He said: “The city’s 850th birthday celebrations this year gives us a massive hook to talk about the heritage of the city and this is something I’m still pushing heavily for.
