A government minister is to re-examine the case of PC George Taylor, with bravery medals recognising fallen officers 'a priority'
Campaigners seeking overdue honours for two Lanarkshire police officers who were murdered in the line of duty saw their cause receive government backing after the cases were highlighted at Westminster.

“I know Wendy from from my time at the Scottish police college and thought her her being an ex-officer might give it bit of weight; she was very quick in getting the debate in the calendar, and I was surprised about the government response, that they’d most definitely look at both, be back in touch this year and offering to meet.
George’s research was highlighted at Westminster by Ms Chamberlain, who told PC Taylor’s story in detail – including then-Strathclyde Police chief constable Patrick Hamill saying he had “displayed exceptional gallantry and courage in attempting to overpower two dangerous, violent and armed men” as he wrote to the Scottish secretary to request that he be awarded a posthumous bravery medal.
Angela Crawley, the Lanark & Hamilton East MP, was among the members speaking in support of the campaigns, calling the five-year time bar on recognition “arbitrary” and saying: “An exception would be welcome and appropriate.”
