Alan Earl James, who was convicted of multiple sex crimes against children, is set to move into the Campo community before the end of the month

Residents in Campo were notified this week that a sexually violent predator is scheduled to move into their community by the end of the month, sheriff’s officials said. Alan Earl James will be moved from a state mental health hospital to a residence at 1138 Custer Road, near state Route 94 and Campo Road, on or before March 22, according to the District Attorney’s Office website. He will be the seventh sexually violent predator to be housed in a rural San Diego County community, officials said.

James, who is diagnosed with pedophilia, was convicted in 1981 of a lewd act upon a child under the age of 14 and was sentenced to three years probation and 180 days in jail, according to the District Attorney’s Office. Five years later, he was convicted of committing multiple sex crimes against three children including unlawful sexual intercourse and kidnapping for the purpose of child molest. He was sentenced to 28 years in prison in 1986.
