After extensive damage during spring runoff in 2023, a campsite in American Fork Canyon is still in disrepair.
A man who regularly camps in that area said spring flooding wreaked havoc, and he is troubled by the unknown timeline for its restoration.About 8 miles up American Fork Canyon sits the Little Mill Campground , where climbers Jake and Drew frequent year-round. They’ve witnessed the aftermath of last spring’s flooding firsthand.
“The damage does seem extensive, but it doesn’t seem irreparable," Jake said. He believed the Forest Service could fix the impacted area if they rallied resources quickly. In spring 2023, Forest Service officials reported logjams at Little Mill campsites and nearby trails. A year later, the scene remains seemingly unchanged.While the campground is shown online to be closed, it typically opens for the summer season.
