Metro Manila’s bicycling community surged early in the pandemic. Now activists are trying to keep the momentum going.

“Bike lanes have now become a much more hostile environment than they were” at the height of the pandemic, said Angeles, adding that the return to pre-pandemic levels of car traffic has escalated the sense of danger for many bikers. And in some parts of Metro Manila, bike infrastructure is actively “being removed or downgraded,” he added.
