I’m sure the displays in shops and public spaces have become distinctly more horrific
My five-year-old daughter walked into our local supermarket, squealed, and tried to run straight back out. Now, to be fair, that’s my reaction to shopping on a Saturday, too. But it wasn’t the thought of pushing a trolley through crowds of people under harsh fluorescent lights and jostling for space to get to a tin of beans that upset her.
But, in recent years, I’m sure the Halloween displays in shops and public spaces have become distinctly more horrific. Where there used to be a few pumpkins, paper ghosts and the odd string of cardboard bats, we now have freakishly disturbing monsters hanging everywhere. I took my kids to soft play last week, and they both asked to leave because they were frightened of the large, blood-soaked Frankenstein’s monster suspended over the entrance. I mean, in a child’s soft play? Really?I don’t want to stop anyone buying scary decorations for their own home if they want to.
Turn the privacy of the inside of your own home into a portal to a brutal hell dimension if you want, but let’s keep the fruit and veg aisle free of murderous ghouls, shall we?
