A canine behavior expert warns of the increasing popularity of the Cane Corso breed following restrictions on other powerful breeds. He expresses concerns about the breed's potential danger and compares it to an 'XL bully on steroids.'

A canine behavior expert has raised the alarm about an increase in the popularity of what he calls a 'dangerous' breed. Referring to the breed as more threatening than the XL bully, a surge in the Cane Corso 's popularity has been noticed following restrictions on the ownership of XL bullies. The Cane Corso , an Italian mastiff with a lineage traceable back to ancient Roman war dogs, is now perceived as a significant threat.

Rob Alleyne, who operates the Canine Instructor Academy in Suffolk, minced no words with his evaluation: 'The Cane Corso is like an XL bully on steroids. It's a killing machine and they've become much more popular now.' He suggests that existing bans on certain breeds might push people towards this potentially dangerous dog that does not require registration. Highlighting his worries during an interview with the Times, Alleyne added: ' has just pushed people towards an even worse dog that doesn't need to be registered and God help us if they become too popular.' Noticing more Cane Corsos at his training centre, Alleyne cautions that society may be seeing 'history repeating itself'. Looking back at patterns with other banned breeds, he said: 'We saw it happen with the Pit Bull Terrier. When they banned the Pit Bull, what did we get? We got a dog far more dangerous than the Pit Bull Terrier. They just made a new one worse than the preceding one: the XL bully,' reports the Mirror. Following an incident where a woman in her thirties required plastic surgery after attempting to break up a fight between her XL bully and Cane Corso, as reported by the Independent in October, Mr Alleyne has issued a warning. Currently, there are 220 Cane Corso puppies listed for sale on the Pets4Homes website, with prices ranging from £380 to £2,000. The expert highlighted that the number of Cane Corsos has reportedly increased due to measures taken against XL bullie
