Police in Nottingham raided a house on Staunton Drive and discovered a large-scale cannabis farm. 493 cannabis plants were found, and the suspect, Albert Hatjia, has been charged with producing cannabis and abstracting electricity.

A man has appeared in court following a police raid on a Nottingham home which uncovered a large-scale cannabis farm. Officers executed a warrant at an address on Staunton Drive in Sherwood on Tuesday, February 4th, leading to the discovery of 493 cannabis plants cultivated across six separate growing areas. Nottingham shire Police revealed that the property's electricity supply had been illegally bypassed to power the operation. A suspect was located at the scene and subsequently charged.

Both the suspected Class B drugs and the equipment used to facilitate the cannabis farm were either seized or destroyed by the officers. Albert Hatjia, a 28-year-old resident of Staunton Drive, faces charges of producing cannabis and abstracting electricity. He appeared at Nottingham Magistrates' Court on Wednesday, February 5th, and was remanded into custody. Hatjia is scheduled to appear at Nottingham Crown Court on March 5th. PC Martyn Barber of Nottinghamshire Police commented on the operation, stating: 'This warrant was executed following intelligence gathered about the property potentially being involved in drugs supply. We’re therefore really pleased to have been able to seize such a large quantity of cannabis plants following this operation, which should serve as a good example that, where the intelligence exists, we will always strive to take action on it. 'While we obviously don’t want to see drugs in our communities, full stop, it’s also worth noting the very real fire hazard these types of grows can pose to the buildings that house them and neighbouring properties too. Because of this, we will continue to do everything in our powers as a neighbourhood policing team to identify and disrupt these kinds of practices and look to put any suspects before the courts.
