This review of Captain America: Brave New World explores the film's connections to previous Marvel projects, Harrison Ford's performance as President Ross, impressive aerial fight scenes, and the film's shortcomings. It also touches on the re-written character of Sabra and the political climate's influence.

And this is where one of the disconnects of the film comes in, a lot of the story rides on Thaddeus Ross, and his efforts to fix his estranged relationship with his daughter Betty Ross -Liv Tyler returns to the role, Ross thinks that if he shows that he has changed, Betty will speak with him again which leads him to take a seat at the oval office AKA the presidency.

Another thing that I enjoyed about the film was the aerial fight scenes which I thought were impressive, you have to remember that before he was Captain America Sam Wilson was ‘The Falcon’ and a former military paratrooper. We see what he can do in the air with a vibranium shield and an upgraded pair of wings, and did I mention that said wings can basically cut through anything? And that was a fun addition to the fight scenes.

The tone and quality of the writing were not consistent as well. There also seemed to be a lot of info dump and explanation through exposition which was a hard trap not to fall into, given that the story was drawing from the character’s struggles and motivations fromincluded ‘Celestial Island’ in the plot. You know, the big statue of Tiamut that appeared in the Indian ocean at the end of ‘The Eternals’.

I think it’s a shame that those who did not get to see “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” series also didn’t see Sam Wilson’s initial struggle when Steve Rogers gave him the shield Sam dealt with so much doubt that he even gave the shield back to the government at the beginning of the series which led to the creation of the U.S. Agent role, played by actor Wyatt Russell, fans will see him reprise his role in the upcoming ‘Thunderbolts’ movie, but I digress.
