Captain Cook’s lost Endeavour ship that ‘discovered’ Australia ‘finally found sunken off coast of USA’
CAPTAIN Cook's long lost ship may have finally been uncovered, sunken off the coast of America.
Experts still need to positively identify the ship, and say it could take months or years to verify its identity.
Cook used Endeavour to sail around the world between 1768 and 1771, including on its first scientific mission to Tahiti. Eventually the Endeavour returned to England, where it was sold off by the Royal Navy to a private buyer. He is most famous for the first recorded European contact with the eastern coastline of Australia and Hawaii and for being the first to sail all the way around New Zealand
