The family of Captain Sir Tom Moore has removed all references to him and his charitable legacy from the online listing of their Bedfordshire mansion.
The family of Captain Sir Tom Moore have made significant changes to their attempt to sell their country mansion. Previously listed for £2.25 million, the seven-bedroom property in Bedfordshire is now back on the market for over £2 million. However, any reference to Captain Tom, his daughter Hannah Ingram-Moore and husband Colin, or his charitable endeavors have been removed from the online listing.
The description now simply states: 'The vendors have owned the property for 18 years and have undertaken a comprehensive programme of improvement and renovation.'Captain Tom, a Second World War veteran, became a national hero during the Covid-19 pandemic when he raised £39 million for charity by walking 100 lengths of his garden before his 100th birthday. He was knighted by the late Queen Elizabeth and sadly passed away in 2021. His daughter and husband were previously found to have benefited financially from a charity set up in his name. A Charity Commission investigation revealed that they had pocketed more than £1 million, leading to public backlash and the temporary withdrawal of the property from the open market. Previous online listings had prominently featured images of Captain Tom, including one of his knighting ceremony in 2020, and a bust depicting him completing his fundraising challenge. The Charity Commission's investigation uncovered 'repeated failures of governance and integrity', stating that the Ingram-Moores' 'misconduct and/or mismanagement' was a 'repeated pattern of behaviour'. It was found that sales of Captain Tom's autobiography, 'Tomorrow Will Be A Good Day', did not benefit the charity. An advance of £1.4 million for the three-book deal was paid to Club Nook, a company the couple are directors of, with the charity receiving no proceeds. In 2023, Hannah Ingram-Moore admitted keeping the book profits, claiming that no agreement had been made with her father for the money to go to charity. The report also criticized the Ingram-Moores for using the foundation's name when applying for planning permission to build a spa pool at the Bedfordshire property. They claimed it was a mistake due to being busy. The pool block was later ordered to be demolished by the local council. The Ingram-Moores, now banned from acting as charity trustees, argued that disclosing details of the book deal was a breach of privacy. They stated they felt 'unfairly and unjustly' treated and accused the Charity Commission of 'selective storytelling'. They claimed the inquiry had taken a 'serious toll on our family's mental and physical health, unfairly tarnishing our name and affecting our ability to carry on Captain Sir Tom's legacy'
