A blue BMW was sent spinning into the middle of the carriageway before bursting into flames
Dramatic drone images have captured the moment a car was consumed by flames following a major crash on the M61 .
The safety barrier alongside the motorway was shattered, causing debris to fall from the bridge onto an embankment beneath the carriageway. Fire crews cordoned off the M61 as all lanes on the northbound carriageway were blocked.Delays exceeding 45 minutes built on Sunday afternoon with diversion routes put in place. The M61 didn't fully reopen until shortly after 2.30am this morning .
Dramatic new drone images show the BMW well alight in the middle of the carriageway near junction four. The driver managed to escape from the car before crews arrived.
