A very serious crash
A teenager is in hospital with a 'serious injury' after a car smashed into the central reservation and a bridge on the M61.
Emergency services including police, fire and rescue and paramedics were called to the incident near junction 8 for Chorley at around 4.30pm yesterday . Lancashire Constabulary said they were called to reports that a Ford Focus had collided with a Ford Kuga before hitting the central reservation and a bridge.
The driver of the Focus – a male in his late teens from Wesham – was taken to hospital with a serious injury. The driver and a passenger in the Kuga, from Manchester, suffered minor injuries.The northbound carriageway was closed until around 10pm while specialist collision investigators attended. It resulted in five miles of congestion and more than 60-minute delays and diversions were put in place.
Lancashire Constabulary are now appealing for information and would like to hear from anybody with dashcam, or who saw the collision or saw the Focus or the Kuga in the moments before it occurred. Sgt Helen Parkinson, of the Lancashire Roads Policing Unit, said: "This collision has left a young man in hospital with a serious injury and we are determined to piece together exactly what occurred. If you saw the collision, or if you have any dashcam footage, please get in touch."
