Richard Carapaz (EF Education-EasyPost) broke away on the penultimate climb of Stage 17 and never looked back, riding to the finish solo for his first ever Tour de France victory.
SBS On Demand Tour de France Hub iOS Android Richard Carapaz made a move from the huge chasing group to catch Simon Yates on the slopes of the Col du Noyer, before attacking the Brit and cresting the summit solo, pacing his effort for the remainder of the stage perfectly to take a historic win as Yates took second and Enric Mas took third.
"I really made the most of the moment. I had won stages in the Giro and the Vuelta but the Tour de France is the race with all the best riders in the world." Despite being eight minutes down on the race for stage honours in front, the top three riders in the overall classification still took the opportunity to attack, with Tadej Pogacar again attacking in the yellow jersey, this time on the Col du Noyer.
