A shark research unit was the first to respond to the scene at the Hartenbos River Mouth in Mossel Bay, where they established a perimeter to preserve the animal for necropsy and sampling. Experts from the Oceans Research Institute and Sea Search then collected samples, measurements and photographs to share with the broader scientific community.The body of a 2.9 metre white shark has washed up on a beach on South Africa one day after marine biologists observed an orca predation.

"We do not believe this was the shark during the observed predation yesterday based on photo ID," Oceans Research Institute said in a social media post.
