Former two-weight world boxing champion Carl Frampton has condemned the recent bouts of race-related violence and disorder across Belfast and beyond, calling it “horrible” to witness. Speaking to mark the start of Good Relations Week 2024, Frampton urged communities in Northern Ireland to embrace the theme of ‘OpportUNITY’ to tackle sectarianism, racism, and all forms of discrimination.

Cars were set alight and a number of businesses were severely damaged. Elsewhere, a petrol bomb was thrown at a mosque in Newtownards Dozens of people have been arrested and charged with offences such as rioting and racially-motivated hate crimes. Young children were also involved in some of the street disturbances.
"That was a bad reflection of it but when you look at what was going on across the UK and Ireland it wasn't just singled out to Belfast. In the end we saw people coming together. Now in its 21st year, Good Relations Week has become a cornerstone for promoting cultural diversity, fostering cross-community collaboration, and driving social cohesion. It brings together local communities, organisations, and leaders to inspire meaningful dialogue and action, tackling the pressing issues facing society today.
