Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has criticized Andy Robertson 's recent performances, stating that the Scottish left-back is 'hanging on for dear life' at the club. Carragher made the comment following Liverpool 's 2-2 draw with Manchester United, where he felt Robertson struggled defensively. 'People always have a go at Trent defensively and that won’t change but if the speculation does affect him, which it looked like it did today, Liverpool will have to change it,' Carragher said.
Carragher also believes that Robertson's struggles, combined with potential issues facing Trent Alexander-Arnold on the opposite flank, put undue pressure on Liverpool's central defenders. 'If Trent is having problems as well on the other side that puts an awful lot of pressure on the middle two. Van Dijk saved Liverpool a lot today, he’s probably having to work too hard, and that’s the one thing that can stop Liverpool from winning the league, the full-back areas.', Carragher said. Robertson, who has made over 300 appearances for Liverpool, recently addressed criticism of his form, stating: 'Look, I am a lot older and a lot wiser now than when I came in. I got doubters for the first time in a long time, first time at this club. But it suits me in this position. I am trying to prove people wrong again.'
