Incumbent Cassandra Hatfield takes on first-time candidates Marjorie Barnes, Luis Palomo and Paul Gilmore
We recommend incumbent Cassandra Hatfield and PTA volunteer Marjorie Barnes in this four-way race for two seats on the Carrollton-Farmers Branch Independent School District board.
The district uses cumulative voting that gives district residents two votes in this contest, which they could cast for a single candidate or split among two candidates.Elected to the school board in 2021, Hatfield, 41, says she wants to improve attendance rates and student achievement, including early childhood literacy, mathematics, and college, career and military readiness.
Luis Palomo, 45, an entrepreneur with a background in technology, impressed us with his knowledge of the district and extensive volunteer work with city and education initiatives, including a program to help teen moms earn their high school degree. Palomo says the district needs to improve parental involvement and community engagement and has the ability and passion to be a solid board member.
