The Denmark midfielder’s new deal has him among the club’s highest earners with talks planned for defensive duo.
The Premiership champions dealt in Matt O'Riley weekend, putting him on a par with the top earners at the club, according to the Scottish Sun. And the midfielder repaid them instantly, hitting a 97th-minute winner to snatch all three points from a topsy-turvy encounter with Motherwell at Fir Park.
Brendan Rodgers had previously admitted that a £10million bid for O'Riley from Leeds United was rejected during the summer transfer window. The former MK Dons man has been a stellar performer since arriving from England during Ange Postecoglou's first season in charge. Rodgers then moved to make him a long-term mainstay of his squad, with a full Denmark call-up understood to be in the offing.
Now attention shifts to tying down other stars, with Rodgers switching his focus to the back line. O'Riley, Kyogo, Callum McGregor and Liel Abada have all penned new deals in recent months, and Carter-Vickers and Taylor could be next. The former Tottenham centre-back still has two years left to run on his, while Scotland international Taylor's current agreement expires in 2025.
But Celtic are planning to sit down with both in an attempt to extend both of their stays in Glasgow. Carter-Vickers has been out injured since the 3-1 away win at Aberdeen in the second game of the season. Taylor has made the left back spot his own after nearly five years at Parkhead. His Scotland chances may be limited with Andy Robertson and Kieran Tierney ahead of him in the queue, but Rodgers sees him as his main man on the left-hand side of the back four and is keen to keep it that way.
