An 83-year-old man, Jackson Pringle, has died following a two-vehicle accident on the A75 near Gretna. Four other men were taken to hospital with varying degrees of injuries.

A Castle Douglas man has died following a road accident. Jackson Pringle was one of five people taken to hospital following the incident on the A75 near Gretna on December 16. However, Mr Pringle – age 83 – succumbed to his injuries. Mr Pringle was a popular member of Castle Douglas Bowling Club, who described him on their Facebook page as “a gentleman and a valued member who really enjoyed his bowling”.

The accident happened just after 11am on December 16 and involved a black Peugeot 3008 and a white Ford Transit van. As well as Mr Pringle, a 77-year-old man was taken to hospital with serious injuries. Three other men – aged 77, 60, and 31 – were also taken to hospital as a precaution. The road was closed for nine hours to allow the emergency services to treat the people involved and carry out their investigations. Sergeant Colin Ramage said: “Enquiries are ongoing and we are appealing to anyone who witnessed the crash to contact us. “We also ask anyone driving in the area at the time with dashcam footage to come forward.” Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101 quoting reference 1097 of December 16
