Wellingborough's Castle Theatre is preparing to celebrate its 30th anniversary with a special exhibition and a unique production of the musical Annie. The theatre, built on the site of the town's former cattle market in 1995, has been a hub for entertainment, hosting touring shows, musical acts, comedy performances, community productions, and film screenings.
In celebration of its milestone, the theatre is collecting memorabilia from past performances and patrons, aiming to create a comprehensive display showcasing its history. Martin Cleverley, the theatre's general manager since 2019, expressed his amazement at the response from the community. 'We're in the process of collating what's been donated,' he said. 'Hopefully we can get most people's up on the wall in the foyer... so it can be as full as can be.' The exhibition is set to open this spring, alongside a special production of Annie, which holds a special place in the theatre's history as it was the first show performed there when it opened in 1995. Furthermore, the Castle Theatre plans to introduce an annual production offering local people the opportunity to participate on stage and behind the scenes for free. This initiative aims to further engage the community and celebrate the theatre's role as a platform for local talent
