A CAT owner has been slammed after reportedly paying for her cat to have 'double-eyelid' surgery to make it more beautiful.
The woman, who has not been named, reportedly took her cat to a vet in the city of Nanjing in China's Jiangsu province to have double-eyelid surgery which cost £1000.The surgery is popular in Asia as it provides a crease on the eyelid, or a "double eyelid", as opposed to the typical single eyelids in the Far East.
In the images, the cat can be seen recovering after the surgery with sore wounds around both its eyes. PETA Asia press officer Keith Guo: "An animal is not a fashion item. If you need to cut up a cat you are living with, you should not be living with him or her.“This also puts the cats at risk of dying from anaesthesia, inappropriate operation, wounds, and infections. However, the owner has now denied the operation was aesthetic.
