The Colorado Department of Transportation is currently in the third phase of the project, focusing on improvements in the southwest part of the area.
Contractor Kraemer North America will install noise walls along the frontage road south of U.S. 6 between Meadowlark Drive and the Wadsworth Boulevard off-ramp. The walls will be between 10 and 12 feet tall.
The noise walls will have a concrete guardrail on both sides to protect the wall from errant vehicles, CDOT said. CDOT also plans to realign a portion of the southwest frontage road add an auxiliary lane along eastbound U.S. 6 from the Carr Street on-ramp to the Wadsworth Boulevard off-ramp. A detached 10-foot-wide multi-use path will be added on the west side of Wadsworth Boulevard from just south of 5th Avenue to Highland Avenue north of the interchange.will involve completing the larger undertaking to reconstruct the remaining portion at U.S. 6 and Wadsworth when work will replace the U.S. 6 bridge over Wadsworth Boulevard. The design is expected to be finalized in late 2025 with construction to begin in 2026.
