Grace Pritchard scores the only goal as Celina ends Boerne's run in the girls 4A soccer final
GEORGETOWN — The run of play indicated improvement, but unfortunately for Boerne , it was not enough as Celina pinned a 1-0 victory against the Greyhounds in the Class 4A girls soccer state championship game Thursday afternoon at Birkelbach Field . Junior forward Grace Pritchard headed in the eventual game-winner three minutes into the second half. Sophomore Ryleigh Stifflemire began the scoring sequence with a corner kick that went to the far side of the 18-yard box.
Boerne lost against Stephenville 2-1 in the 2017 final. Celina finished with an 8-5 advantage in total shots, including 5-2 on goal. If nothing else, that showed marked improvement for Boerne in its two previous matches against Celina. When Celina defeated the Greyhounds in the 2022 state semifinals 3-0, the Bobcats held a 23-2 advantage in shots, including 14-1 on goal. Goalkeeper Kinsley Sawyer, then a freshman, set Class 4A state-tournament record with 11 saves.
