AT&T said it's working to restore service to all of its customers.
Three quarters of those who reported wireless service issues this morning have since had service restored, and “we are working as quickly as possible to restore service to remaining customers,” AT&T said in a statement.The communications giant encouraged affected customers to use Wi-Fi calling until their service is restored.
Verizon and T-Mobile said their services were not experiencing outages, but customers were reporting difficulties because they were attempting to connect to people whose service was down. Some iPhone users have seen SOS messages displayed in the status bar on their cellphones. The message indicates that the device is having trouble connecting to their cellular provider’s network, but it can make emergency calls through other carrier networks, according to Apple Support.
The fire department said to not call 911 simply to test the service, but if someone experiencing an outage needed help, they should use a landline or ask someone with functioning cellular service to call for them.
