Celtic secured a 2-0 victory against Dundee United, consolidating their position at the top of the Scottish Premiership.

Daizen Maeda and Reo Hatate scored in each half to give Celtic a 2-0 victory and extend their lead at the top of the Scottish Premiership to 16 points. The Japan internationals found the net for the Hoops on a night when they dominated, although the visitors had more success after halftime having been kept at bay for almost the entire opening 45 minutes.

The game started slowly in sub-zero temperatures, with Auston Trusty heading against the crossbar from an Arne Engels corner - the same combination that led to the American scoring his first goal against St Mirren at the weekend. The opener came midway through the first half and it was Maeda. Alistair Johnston's ball into the box came off Yang - a last-minute replacement for Nicolas Kuhn who dropped out of the starting XI - and fell to Luke McCowan. The midfielder's effort was saved by Jack Walton, but fell to Maeda who finished past the United goalkeeper. Celtic kept pushing for more goals and the second arrived late on with Hatate on the scoresheet. Luis Palma's deep cross found Maeda and his pass was dummied by Paulo Bernardo for fellow substitute Hatate to shoot into the net. The Hoops are now 16 points clear of their nearest rivals Rangers, who face Dundee on Thursday evening
