General Andres Centino, Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Chief of Staff, hosted Admiral Michael Gilday, chief of the United States Naval Operations, at Camp Aguinaldo in Quezon City on Wednesday, Feb. 22.

During their meeting, Centino and Gilday affirmed the “robust” military partnership between the two countries.

The MDT is a defense pact signed by Washington and Manila in 1951. It states that both nations shall support each other in case of an armed attack from an external party. Austin called Department of National Defense Officer in Charge Senior Undersecretary Carlito Galvez Jr. and reiterated that an armed attack on Philippine armed forces, aircraft, and public vessels would invoke the MDT.
