The 'special and unique' castle is almost 500 years old - and is now being advertised as a 'three-bed house'
A picturesque castle that survived being blown up by Oliver Cromwell's soldiers could be yours - for less than the price of an average house. The 'very special and unique' Castle Donovan is located three miles north of Drimoleague, West Cork, Ireland, but is remained standing despite being severely damaged by the English Civil War figure in the 1640s.
It is believed the attack was in retaliation for Donal III O'Donovan joining the Stuarts and being involved in rebellions. The property then suffered further damage in 1936 as the South West corner collapsed, but thankfully the staircase was left intact. "When Cromwell was around all those years ago, he did damage the castle. One of the walls was obviously hit and you can see the cracks. There's a few people inquiring so they're exploring their options and looking into it
House hunters on social media were gobsmacked by the property and its history. One said: "Well if someone buys it they can my house was damaged by Oliver Cromwell's soldiers, come on how many people can say that?"
