Harvey Rowson, 26, defied medical predictions and accomplished a Guinness World Record by completing the Manchester Half Marathon in an extraordinary time.

A man with cerebral palsy who was told he might never walk has achieved a world record after completing a half marathon . Harvey Rowson, 26, was diagnosed with the lifelong condition at the age of one. Doctors informed his parents that he would always struggle to walk and be unable to run. Despite these grim predictions, Harvey managed to start walking and running as a child.

He accomplished a remarkable feat last year by completing the Manchester Half Marathon in an impressive time of two hours, nine minutes, and 27 seconds. He has now been awarded the Guinness World Record for the fastest half marathon by a man with coordination impairment hemiplegia, but he believes this is just the beginning of his journey.Harvey shared his excitement, saying, 'I received an email stating 'congratulations, you are a Guinness World Record holder. 'I couldn't believe it; I had actually done it. From my cerebral palsy diagnosis until around the age of three, doctors assured me I would never walk, but I picked it up quite quickly. During physiotherapy sessions, they told me I would never be able to run. It felt surreal, going from being told I couldn't run or walk to holding a Guinness World Record for a half marathon.' Harvey had limited running experience before but was inspired by a family member to participate in the half marathon in October of last year. He discovered that no one had ever broken the world record for the fastest half marathon by a man with coordination impairment hemiplegia and decided to contact Guinness World Records. Harvey, from Atherton, admitted to being 'absolutely petrified' on the day of the half marathon because he needed to complete the run in under two hours and 15 minutes to set the record. He recalled, 'Finishing the race didn't feel real. It was a surreal feeling, having trained so intensely for six months, and then it was over. We only found out our times the next day, which was nerve-wracking. I couldn't believe I had completed it but held my breath because it had to be less than two hours and 15 minutes. Thankfully, it was.' Harvey, a barrister's clerk, began training six months before the race and frequently ran 25 miles a week while also hitting the gym. He explained, 'I would run around 25 miles a week. Initially, I really hated it, but after the third or fourth month, I started to enjoy it. It allows you to zone out. I would train twice a week at the gym and then run three times a week.' Harvey is now planning to attempt to break his own record in October this year but jokingly stated that if anyone else wants to give it a shot, they are 'more than welcome.' He added, 'I don't think anyone truly knows what they are capable of, let alone a doctor. If anyone wants to break my record, please feel free - I would be happy.
