Latest Nottingham Forest news as recently-appointed Reds chairman Tom Cartledge discusses his role
A lifelong fan who has held a season ticket for the past 40 years, there would be the usual chats with family and friends about the ups and downs of the Reds and the best and worst signings. Cartledge has sat in every one of the City Ground stands and experienced the full complement of highs and lows, all charted by his collection of programmes.
“They are rather excited. I’m not sure they quite understand that it’s hard work required for dad, rather than this is great because you’re going to find stuff out - which I’m not going to share anyway. “Football has progressed significantly while we were out of the top-flight. Now we’re here, now we’ve experienced it, we don’t want to lose it or leave it behind. We want to go into it and we want to be a standard-bearer, and we actually want to go beyond what others are doing.
“In my business career, I’ve always expected everybody to act with the highest integrity and strive for excellence. We don’t just want to be in the Premier League, we want to be integral and be part of it at every level - whether that’s in the community, whether that’s representing the football club or whether that’s winning football matches.
“Part of my responsibility is to use my connections around the world,” he explains. “I’ll be in those conversations, raising the profile of the club, just because it’s the right thing to be doing. It’s one of the things I want to do, because there’s something special happening here, and we need to share that around the world.
“That’s going to be the hardest challenge, isn’t it? I’ve spent 40 years being an out-and-out fan,” he says. “I’ll continue to be a fan for the next however many years. But in the same vein, I have different responsibilities. I take them very seriously. He reflects: “It’s an opportunity I probably never thought would come my way, so when I had the phone call from the ownership, I was like, wow has that really just happened?
