This news piece reflects on the recent Champions League match between Real Madrid and Manchester City, highlighting Bellingham's winning goal. It also delves into personal football memories of the author, including matches at Goodison Park and encounters with Celtic and Bayern Munich.

Champions League reaction as Bellingham's winner for Real Madrid sinks Manchester City at EtihadJust arrived at my parents having driven from Devon before heading to Goodison tonight. I've been going since the 70s and my dad who is 87 since the early 50s when he'd go to Goodison one week and Anfield the next with his red pal. There's been loads of wonderful Goodison derbies but mid week under the lights, well, there's nothing like it - and I've seen football all over the world.

But the 4-4 in 1989 when I used to travel back from Uni and stood with my dad on the Gwladys Street was both electric and crazy. So that's the best....until tonight! It will be very emotional. One of my first and worst memories was Bradford City beating us in FA Cup in 1997. A team of a young Schwarzer in goal and Andy O'brien in defence. They scored 2 early second half goals to go 3-1 up. The last, a delicious lob from a certain Chris Waddle over Southall after a soon to depart Kanchelskis gave the ball away. The sight of 6,000 ecstatic Bradford fans was enough to make a 9 year old me burst into tears! Years of torment to follow! Celtic defender Auston Trusty speaking in the pre-match news conference before tonight's fixture against Bayern Munich : 'For me to have this opportunity to be playing Bayern Munich at Celtic Park with the fans and the amazing environment and all that, it's what dreams are made of. 'I back this team with everything. When we're on it and have the right mindset, I would truly back us against anyone. 'We're at home. There's no reason to play with fear, there is nothing to lose, we can only gain. If we go out there and do our thing, I truly believe we can get a result that's in our favour.'Goodison Park Dec-2023 League Cup Qtr Final vs Fulham. I just knew where my seat was going to be when I saw this pillar…..and we lost on penalties. I’m not usually an emotional person but Goodison Park just before kick off gets me every single time.My dad is Liverpool through and through but has many fond memories of Goodison in the 60s. None more so than Portugal vs North Korea in the world Cup. He still raves about watching Eusebio score 4!Daizen Maeda's hat-trick against Raith Rovers in the Scottish Cup at the weekend took his tally for the season to 21, his most productive in Scotland to date.Three of those goals have come in the Champions League, including a brilliant curling effort to snatch a critical point against Club Brugge. Finishing was always a criticism of Maeda. Not that he lacked the ability to score good goals, but that he was guilty of some glaring misses. But this season his shot conversion rate has gone up from 13% to 22% in the Scottish Premiership, and his strikes have come in all different forms. Against Rovers he was so sharp in the penalty box for his hat-trick, but against Dundee last week he scored a sublime chip. With that in mind, Rodgers now has a decision to make for the visit of Bayern. Should Maeda play as the central striker, with Kyogo now gone and no direct replacement brought in?I’m a Liverpool fan but my best mate at school was an Evertonian. His brother organised coach trips to Goodison for the local supporters group so I’d get the odd spare ticket. I remember going in ‘96 (v Sheffield Wed) as my first game there. The programme featured David Unsworth and had a fact file in him. One stat was he’d never missed a penalty…sure enough Everton got one and he stepped up only to miss it (I think he hit the bar!). My first game at Goodison was actually Brazil v Japan in 95 in the Umbro Cup. A 3-0 win for Brazil and saw Roberto Carlos, Ronaldo, Zinho, Jorginho too. Great memories.Celtic have faced Bayern Munich on four previous occasions in European competition, going winless across all four in the group stages of the Champions League (D1 L3). Bayern Munich are unbeaten in their past 13 matches against Scottish sides in major European competition (W9 D4), with their last such defeat coming against Hearts in the Uefa Cup in February 1989 (1-0). Celtic have won just one of their 12 Champions League/European Cup clashes with German opposition (D3 L8), although that victory did come in the most recent one, against RB Leipzig in November. Bayern Munich have lost three of their four away matches (W1) in the Champions League this season. Should Celtic earn a victory here, it would be the first time the German side have lost four away games in a single campaign in major European competition. Only five midfielders have played every minute for their teams in the Champions League this season (720), two of which play for clubs involved in this game: Callum McGregor for Celtic and Joshua Kimmich for Bayern Munich. How highly would a Celtic win rate in all time Scottish results In knockout rounds in Europe? It would be up there with the Lisbon lions, Aberdeen beating real Madrid in 83, Rangers beating Bayern in 72, Dundee Utd beating Barcelona in 8
