Much of the focus of Saturday's provincial Championship draw will be on Ulster folllowing Mickey Harte's shock switch to Derry and the return of Jim McGuinness to Donegal
The draws for next year’s provincial Senior Football Championship draws will be made live on RTÉ Radio 1 on Saturday and, as ever, all eyes will be on Ulster.
After wining three All-Ireland Senior titles with his native Tyrone in 2003, 2005 and 2008, what are the chance of Harte’s Derry being pitted against the Red Hands in Saturday’s draw? That means there’s a 40 per cent chance that Derry will be involved in the preliminary round while Tyrone cannot be their opponents at that particular stage of the competition.
The Kingdom won their tenth title in 11 seasons with a 5-14 to 0-15 rout of Clare and the pair will receive byes to next season’s semi-finals. Only a miracle will deny them a 14th consecutive title next spring and there seems no obvious contender to their throne with Kildare, perhaps, their nearest challenger.
