There are fears of travel chaos with tens of thousands left unable to book trips for events like Manchester Pride
Late Editor and Senior ReporterPeople wanting to travel along the west coast mainline during the bank holiday weekend have been left with only half a timetable, even as they begin their getaways.
Avanti, whose contract along the route is up for renewal in October, is recommending customers buy two single tickets due to the lack of schedule. This means passengers are charged considerably more than if they were able to buy a return ticket for planned journeys. A spokesperson said: “We apologise for the delay in tickets being made available for this weekend. With our reduced timetable we are having to finalise our timetable in journey planners at short notice, and we are sorry for the inconvenience this is causing our customers.”
The disruption comes as train drivers at three companies voted overwhelmingly for strike action in a dispute over pay.
